🎨 Mixed Media Masterclass: From Texture to Narrative Four Weeks Course Outline | House Of Culture Course Description: This immersive workshop explores the versatile world of Mixed Media. Over four sessions, students will move beyond the traditional canvas, learning to layer textures, integrate diverse materials, and master professional finishing techniques. Each participant will complete one high-quality gallery-wrapped canvas by the end of the course. Week 1: Textural Foundations & Structural Layers Introduction to Mediums: Understanding the properties of Gesso, Modeling Paste, and Gel Mediums. Tool Mastery: Hands-on practice with palette knives, sponges, and unconventional scraping tools. Building the Base: Creating "relief" and 3D effects on the canvas. Theory: Understanding the "Fat over Lean" principle and how different textures react to light. Week 2: The Language of Color (Acrylics & Glazing) Advanced Blending: Techniques for seamless transitions and high-contrast color theory. Glazing & Depth: Using fluid acrylics and glazing liquids to create luminous, transparent layers over Week 1’s texture. Impasto Technique: Adding thick, expressive brushwork to highlight focal points. Week 3: Collage & Material Integration (The Narrative) Found Objects & Textiles: How to properly adhere decorative papers, vintage ephemera, fabrics, or sand into your work. Composition & Storytelling: Creating a visual narrative through the "layering of memories." Integration: Blending the edges of collaged elements with paint so they become part of the organic whole. Week 4: Final Accents & Professional Finishing Metallics & Brilliance: Working with Gold/Silver Leaf and high-pigment inks to add luxury accents and focal "pops." Group Critique: A supportive "mini-exhibition" and discussion of everyone's final piece. Student Takeaways: A completed 16"x20" (or preferred size) professional-grade mixed media painting.
